STRETCH + RECOVERY

Recovery is one of those things that we think about but is put in the neglected pile (next to that half-done painting and mountain of laundry).
Taking the time to sit in a stretch is just as important for your body, as making sure you’re eating + sleeping enough. As a trial next week, Scott is taking over the Monday 5:15pm class in the Rumble Room to bring you a Stretch + Recovery class. We’ve asked Scott to give you a bit of insight into what the class itself will look like…

What inspired you to create this class?
Over the years, I have taught a number of stretch, recovery and relaxation style programs. If this seems like a far cry from the version of me you know in the Cycle and Rumble rooms… then you would be correct!
As I have gotten older and busier in life, I notice that the less time I focus on recovery, the more I struggle to maintain my more high intensity pursuits. I find when I commit time to flexibility and recovery training, I’m reminded how much I love it and how beneficial it is. I have wanted to run this program for a number of years as I know I can’t be the only one that would benefit from incorporating more mobility, flexibility and mindfulness into the week.
How is this class different from a typical yoga class?
I am a trained Yoga teacher but I really wanted to ensure that this was not just another yoga class. Often people see themselves as “not flexible enough” or “not calm enough” for yoga and I want to break that barrier down to provide a really accessible and functional class where you can explore different types of stretching in a non-judgemental environment.
Like everything we do at Inspire, music will play a key role in the experience and you can expect to hear curated playlists that will connect to the workout and guide you through the experience.
Give us an idea of what we can expect in the class...
So, the class will still run over our standard 45-min time slot.
The class will begin with a short centring moment where we can bring focus into the space and set an intention for what is to come. This is followed by a more active mobility sequence to bring movement and heat into our bodies. From there, we will move through a series of stretches paying special attention to the hips, glutes, spine and hamstrings. Finally, the class will conclude with breath and meditation to make sure that everyone leaves feeling relaxed and centred.
Why is recovery so important?
Recovery and stretching are crucial and will enhance overall performance. Taking time to properly stretch and recover will help to increase flexibility, range of motion, reduce muscle soreness and improve blood flow. There are also psychological benefits including reduced stress and anxiety, improved mood and sleep as well as enhanced self-awareness.
Will this be a regular class?
Hopefully! We would like to see this program popping up across the timetable as it will literally benefit everyone’s training.
I am really excited to bring this program to our community which will compliment our existing programs in a really holistic way.
Bookings are open now — you can book in through here!
We can't wait to see what you all think...
